TOC conventions and plans

In sports magazines Table of contents can be practically as detailed and creative as you want them to be like the one above. The TOC above is very abstract and creative, with a variety of pictures and details to go along with them.
This picture is also very image heavy based, because it uses a variety of pictures to make it more interesting and appealing but also with a good amount of information. The big numbers represent the page number that holds articles and the bits of information show what the articles information is in a broad form. Both TOC are very cool and interesting but even big sports magazine companies like Sports Illustrated have a lot more simple designs to their TOC.

The picture above is a TOC from Sports Illustrated, most of their TOC follow the similar font and layout for where the number and content correlating to the page numbers go. The picture in this TOC uses one big picture and lays out the content on top it. The red numbers helps make the page numbers pop more and also are similar to the jersey. The color theme is used to help keep it simple and also professional. There isn't a blob of colors that are all different and that's good because otherwise it can distract the reader and be a visual mess. Even if you have a lot of colors, the way to make it organized and professional is  by fitting it to where it flows well like the 2nd example. The 2nd example is pretty good at using a variety of colors but not enough to where it is super unprofessional.

Sketches

The sketch above is one of the sketches I did, the sketch follows a somewhat creative theme. The page numbers are aligned like that so that they are easy to read and also professional. The contents in the middle going diagonally helps separate the page. The picture is in a awkward position but my thoughts were that when it is done and if actually made, then the picture would flow well.

This is the 2nd sketch I did. This sketch follows a more detailed take on what I would do. The top of the page is a picture and takes almost half the page up. I did this because it is similar to something that would be seen in a Sports Illustrated TOC. The page numbers are all placed on the bottom of the page because of how it is easy to read and can all be seen. I said that the number pattern would maybe be a red and black theme so it would be red black red black. I wanted the color red because of how it is bold and might be able to match what ever image I have. I chose black cause of how it flows well with black and it also is simple. The article info is places to the right of the numbers also because of the easiness to read and making it all in one section. Since I had empty space I chose to put another picture in the space because I don't want too much empty space. The writing above and below the picture explain my font and color choices for the numbers and article info.

This is a 3rd sketch I did follows a lot more less basic plan o what I would do. The pictures being in a diagonal pattern with them taking up the page would be cool. This was done so that more pictures can be shown in a more unique way and the pictures would have a more important role on the contents page like the first example. The page number and article info also would follow a diagonal theme, so it would be linear to the pictures. The colors of the page numbers would have to be bold and potentially baby blue. The article info would have to b sophisticated like a serif font and the color would most likely be black so it is easy to read and black also matches everything.
